New LA Metro line is proving tasty

Foodies Rejoice as New Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension Opens.

The newly opened extension to Los Angeles metro system is being hailed as a bonus for food-loving tourists.

The Edward R. Roybal Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension began service in November, and runs between Union Station Downtown and East Los Angeles. The new six-mile light rail segment features eight new stations, including two underground stations at Soto Street and at Mariachi Plaza, and creates a convenient new link to a large variety of restaurants in culturally-rich Little Tokyo, the Downtown Arts District and Hispanic-centric Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.

Eateries within walking distance of the new stations include sushi bars, bakeries, sandwich shops, marketplaces, taquerias and burrito stands, pizzerias, roast goat specialists and mariscos (seafood) cafés. The new line links the existing Metro Gold Line to Pasadena with Little Tokyo and the Arts District in Downtown, before traveling east along 1st Street through Boyle Heights to East Los Angeles. The new extension brings the Metro Rail system to a total of 79 miles of rail -- all built during the past 20 years.
