Fine time on the vine in Missouri

Missouri, in the American Midwest, is one of the US’s lesser-known wine-growing regions but it features several vineyards within easy driving distance of the state’s main gateway, St Louis.

One such area is Hermann, a result of the wave of German immigrants who in the early nineteenth century brought with them cuttings of vines from the home country. Today, there are seven award-winning wineries within a 15-mile radius of Hermann. Suggest clients heading to the ‘Archway City’ this year make time to visit one of the ‘Show Me’ state’s most picturesque regions.

Those in the area this month (February) can expect to find the perfect combination of chocolate and wine on the Hermann Chocolate Wine Trail. The trail, which takes place February 19 and 20, will see Hermann’s vintners tempting visitors with creative chocolate and wine pairings. Participating wineries are Adam Puchta Winery, Bias Winery, Dierberg Star Lane, Hermannhof Winery, OakGlenn Winery, Robller Winery and Stone Hill Winery.

Picturesque Hermann sits on the banks of the Missouri River, just 90 minutes from downtown St Louis and about three hours from Kansas City. Aside from wine, the picturesque German community offers Old-World hospitality and the quiet charms of an earlier time, with museums, shops and galleries, and fine dining.
