Saddle up and ride

No trip to Texas is complete without visiting a rodeo and there is no better time to saddle up and visit one than early in the new year.

Rodeo is a year-round sport in Texas and visitors can find live, heart-stopping rodeo action or stock shows somewhere in the state almost every week but if they want to make a date with the oldest stock show in America recommend they check out Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, January 15-February 7.

Featuring the world’s original indoor rodeo, the event includes a huge carnival l livestock shows and sales, and lots of entertainment for all the family.

Alternatively the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, runs February 4-21 kicking off with a Cattle Drive parade, or the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo takes place from 2-21 March.

Rodeos involve horses and other livestock and are designed to test the skill and speed of the human cowboy and cowgirl athletes who participate. Professional rodeos generally include tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing.
