Highs and lows of UK arrivals

UK visitors to the US were up by three per cent, to 4.208 million, in the first 11 months of 2008, according to new statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The increase was recorded in spite of a 14 per cent decline in November alone. The UK accounted for 37 per cent of all Western European arrivals.
Equivalent percentages for all international arrivals into the US were six per cent up in the first 11 months, to 47 million, and nine per cent down in November to 3.6 million.

The US’s 15 top ports of entry, accounted for 84 percent of all overseas arrivals, nearly one per cent higher than last year.

Arrivals through San Francisco and Chicago were up nine per cent and five percent, respectively, moving them into fifth and sixth positions ahead of Honolulu, which experienced a nine per cent decline in arrivals.

Atlanta, increasing 14 percent, moved into eighth place and Houston, up 10 percent, moved into 13th place ahead of Detroit. Arrivals through Philadelphia grew 30 per cent as it moved up to 15th spot.
