Kentucky will ride on back of golf clash
KENTUCKY will find itself in the spotlight this month when it hosts one of golf’s most anticipated events.
The 37th Ryder Cup, a bi-annual competition between the US and Europe, will take place at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville between September 16h-21.
But you don’t have to be a professional to enjoy great golf in the state: Kentucky is home to 180 public courses with the Kentucky Parks Golf Trail offering 13 championship 18-hole courses. Golf Digest Magazine named four of these, Dale Hollow, Pine Mountain, Yatesville Lake and Grayson Lake, among ‘the Best New Affordable Public Courses’.
Visitors to the state can also drop by the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington - the Kentucky Derby takes place the first Saturday of every May at Churchill Downs Racecourse – experience the Muhammad Ali Centre in Louisville; self-drive along the Bourbon Trail; take a tour of the National Corvette Museum, the largest and most comprehensive non-profit museum ever dedicated to America’s premier sports car; or explore Mammoth Cave, the longest cave system in the world.
Direct flights are available from London Gatwick to Northern Kentucky airport with Delta Airlines.
