Athfest puts the rock into Georgia music scene
VISITORS to Georgia this month should try to make time for one of the state’s top music festivals.
The popular AthFest takes place in Athens (June 18-22), a town forever associated with top rock bands such as REM and the B52s.
Visitors can experience over 100 bands on outdoor stages and in Athens' many renowned music clubs. Original music, art, local film screenings, and a KidsFest – featuring events such as Mad Science of North Georgia, Sam’s Path Petting Zoo, and a Climbing Wall, Spidey Jump, and carnival games and prizes – provide entertainment for all ages.
Visitors can also sign up for an Athens Music History Driving Tour on the Athens Welcome Centre’s Classic City Tours bus. The tour explores the sights and sounds that cultivated Athens' rich musical heritage.
The festival’s outdoor stages are free with all-venue weekend wristbands available for sale.
